Katie Thompson, Hannah Elless and Cedric Neal were among the performers starring in the premiere New York presentation of The Moon and the Sea, a new musical by Creighton Irons, May 5 at The Cutting Room in Manhattan.
Performers included Thompson (Off-Broadway's Giant), Elless (Godspell, Somewhere in Time, The Other Josh Cohen), Neal (After Midnight, Porgy and Bess), Blake Whyte (Mamma Mia!, Wicked), Patrick Newton (Blue Man Group) and Isaac Woofter (War Horse).
The Moon and the Sea is billed as follows: "A group of friends playing music on the shore witness the moon and the sea collide, crashing and rolling together in bright silver waves. Is it love? A dream? Could there be another explanation for this cataclysmic event? When they reunite on the beach years later, they find the answers in unexpected places."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
