On Aug. 11, Alan Cumming accepted The Goodspeed Award for Outstanding Contribution to Musical theatre on behalf of honoree Kristin Chenoweth. Chenoweth (Wicked, You're a Good Man Charlie Brown) was unable to attend the gala due to her ongoing recovery from injuries sustained on the set of "The Good Wife" in July.
Broadway, film and television star Cumming appeared in the 1999 TV movie of "Annie" with Chenoweth and is a co-star on "The Good Wife". The performance portion of the evening was hosted by Tony and Grammy-nominated composer Andrew Lippa, Chenoweth's friend and colleague. They were joined by Goodspeed Musicals alums Kirsten Wyatt and Khris Lewin.
Goodspeed Musicals also honored the Hoffman Auto Group, which received the inaugural Goodspeed Musicals Arts & Business Partnership Award, an honor bestowed upon a prominent member of the Connecticut business community who has demonstrated an exceptional commitment to the arts and culture.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
