Tony Award nominee Da'Vine Joy Randolph, Nick Adams, Max Von Essen, Kara Lindsay and Nikki Renée Daniels are among the performers who took part in the Oct. 14 "Broadway Gets Out the Vote" event.
Broadway for Obama founders Celia Keenan-Bolger (Peter and the Starcatcher) and Andrew Keenan-Bolger (Newsies) created the event that aimed to educate and motivate members of the theatre community about the issues at the core of Barack Obama's presidential re-election campaign.
"It's intimidating, but we're up for it," Celia Keenan-Bolger said in a statement. "The only way we're going to win this election is by reaching out to people in swing states and showing our enthusiasm for President Obama."
The 7-10 PM evening, held at 405 West 55th Street, began with an information session explaining how individuals can get involved in the campaign, followed by phone banking.
A performance by Lauren Molina (Marry Me a Little) and Nick Cearley (Next to Normal) of The Skivvies also took place.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
