Playwright Heather McDonald and director Michael Mayer bring her An Almost Holy Picture to Broadway for a run at the American Airlines Theatre. The one man play opened Feb. 7.
In An Almost Holy Picture, filmdom's Kevin Bacon plays Samuel Gentle, the former priest, now church groundskeeper, whose faith is shaped by: a voice he heard as a child; a horrible schoolbus accident that leads to his renunciation of the ministry; and his daughter's rare endocrine disease. An Almost Holy Picture has extended at the American Airlines Theatre through April 7.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
