Pascale Armand, Maria Dizzia and Greg Keller, all stars of the Yale Repertory Theater world premiere of Amy Herzog's Belleville, reunite for the Off-Broadway production beginning previews Feb. 12 at the New York Theater Workshop.
Here's how Belleville is billed: "Abby and Zack—young, American and married – have shirked the stability of a comfortable post-graduate life in the States for Belleville, a bustling, bohemian, multicultural neighborhood in Paris. In an attempt to build a life together away from their family and friends, their passive-aggressive and aggressively passionate relationship is put to the test after an awkward afternoon discovery, a landlord's ultimatum and a cracked toenail."
Anne Kauffman (Detroit, This Wide Night), who staged the 2011 Yale premiere, also returns for the Off-Broadway engagement that will welcome actor Phillip James Brannon to the cast.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
