Stray Dog Theatre presents Duncan Sheik and Steven Sater's Tony Award-winning rock musical Spring Awakening Oct. 4-20 at Tower Grove Abbey in St. Louis, MO.
The modern folk-infused rock adaptation of Frank Wedekind’s 19th century expressionist play portrays a group of young students coming of age in an uncomprehending world," according to press notes. "Banned when first introduced, this controversial classic is still provocative as a contemporary musical in its uncompromising view of teenage angst and exhilaration. Winner of eight Tony Awards including Best Musical, Spring Awakening is a celebration of the rebellious imperatives of youth."
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
