Charlie Rosen's Broadway Big Band, featuring work from Broadway composer and musician Charlie Rosen, made its New York City concert debut Nov. 19 at the Laurie Beechman Theatre.
The 7 PM concert, featuring Rosen's arrangements of classic show tunes and standards backed by a 17-piece orchestra, included Nick Blaemire (Godspell, Dogfight), Hannah Elless (Godspell, The Other Josh Cohen), Santino Fontana (Cinderella, The Importance of Being Earnest), Andrew Kober (Hair), Caissie Levy (Ghost, Hair), Alysha Umphress (On A Clear Day..., American Idiot) and the band's resident vocalist Monet Julia Sabel.
Rosen recently composed the score for the Roundabout Theater Company's Cyrano de Bergerac and served as musical director and bassist for the onstage band in One Man, Two Guvnors on Broadway. His other Broadway credits include Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson and 13. His debut EP, "Monet Sabel & The Charlie Rosen Big Band," is now available on iTunes.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
