PHOTO EXCLUSIVE: A Day With Phantom of the Opera's New "Christine Daaé," Samantha Hill
05 Mar 2013
Newcomer Samantha Hill, who previously served as the alternate leading lady, promotes this week to the principal Christine Daaé in Broadway's Phantom of the Opera. A few weeks back she shared a day in the life at the Majestic Theatre with Playbill.com.
Armed with her own camera and a keen photographic eye, Hill invites readers to join her as she takes center stage for the matinee performance of Phantom then returns to lend moral support to her castmates and snap backstage photos at the evening show.
A native of Winnipeg, Hill's Canadian theatre credits include August: Osage County (Jean), The Light in the Piazza (Clara), Spring Awakening (Wendla), Nine (Carla), Cats (Rumpleteaser), Annie (Lily St. Regis), Chicago (Hunyak) and Beauty and the Beast (Belle).
Sierra Boggess concluded her limited engagement as Christine March 2 and Hill assumes the role beginning the week of March 4. Marni Raab returns as the Christine alternate.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
