PHOTO EXCLUSIVE: Backstage Glances at the Philly Premiere of Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson

The Tony Award-nominated Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, a rock-musical portrait of the controversial populist American president, gets its Philadelphia debut at Plays & Players Theatre. Cast member Brendan Norton offers a look backstage.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson, which had a brief Broadway run in fall 2010, preceded by productions at the Public Theater and Los Angeles, was nominated for 2011 Tony Awards in the categories of Best Book and Best Scenic Design.

Producing Artistic Director Daniel Student directs a cast that stars Joe Sabatino as Andrew Jackson, Shannon Remley as Rachel Jackson, Allison Caw, Max Cove, Jamison Foreman, Billy Kametz, Sam Nagel, Kristen Norine, Brendan Norton, Corey Regensburg, Tim Rinehart, Meggie Siegrist and Josh Totora.

Bloody Bloody Andrew Jackson was created by Alex Timbers (book) and Michael Friedman (music and lyrics) and, according to Bailiwick, "tells the story of the United States of America's audacious and bold seventh president, the founder of the Democratic party who greatly expanded the size of the nation."

Performances continue through Feb. 10.

All performances are at Plays & Players Theatre at 1714 Delancey Place. Tickets are $25 in advance and $30 at the door for general admission. Discounted group rates of $15 for groups of 10 or more and student rates of $20 are also available. For tickets or more information visit
