Disney's hold on Broadway loosened just a bit in 2004 with the closing of Aida, it's hit musical which ran for 1,852 regular performances over its 54-month run at the Palace Theatre.
Under the direction of Robert Falls, composer Elton John, lyricist Tim Rice and librettists Linda Woolverton and David Henry Hwang turned the famous Verdi opera into a modern musical sensation that earned star Heather Headley a 2000 Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical.
