Playbill.com polled our readers via Facebook and Twitter asking them to share their favorite musical theatre icons, why they should have a solo show on Broadway and what musical numbers would be featured.
Here are some reader responses followed by background on each performer.
Nathan Hinds: Patti LuPone... She's the definitive diva of Broadway. I know she did a duo with Mandy Patinkin, but her solo show "The Gypsy in My Soul" is like watching the history of Broadway unfold before your eyes.
James Foster: Patti LuPone's show in London with Seth Rudetsky was one of my theatrical highlights this year. Pure class!
John Verderber: As much as I loved the Patti/Mandy show, Patti LuPone HERSELF, unscripted with just a pianist, piano and songs and stories from her career with her fabulously funny and real take on "the biz"…
Patti LuPone is a two-time Tony Award winner for her performances in Evita and Gypsy. She was also Tony-nominated for The Robber Bridegroom, Anything Goes, Sweeney Todd and Women on the Verge of a Nervous Breakdown. Her Broadway credits also include The Anarchist, An Evening With Patti LuPone and Mandy Patinkin, Noises Off, Matters of the Heart, The Old Neighborhood, Master Class, Accidental Death of an Anarchist, Oliver! and Working, among others.
