OBSESSED!: Haven Burton Has Total Eclipses of the Brain and Legs

Haven Burton joins Seth Rudetsky in studio for the latest episode of OBSESSED! Seth is ready to roll with the Off-Broadway production of his comedic jukebox musical Disaster! and it just so happens that Burton is his newly-cast leading lady. She tells the tale of her own onstage disaster during her days in Shrek the Musical when her mind wandered just a wee bit. Then she recreates her Disaster! audition, which required that everyone in the room close their eyes so that she could secretly set up a big comedic reveal during her performance of a tune from The Little Mermaid. Highlights From Rupert Holmes' Secondhand Lions in Seattle

The world-premiere staging of Secondhand Lions features Tony Award nominees Gregg Edelman (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, City of Angels) and Mark Jacoby (Ragtime, Sweeney Todd ) as eccentric uncles who are entrusted with their 14-year-old nephew (A Christmas Story, The Musical's Johnny Rabe) for a summer. Based on the 2003 movie starring Michael Caine and Robert Duval, the book is by Rupert Holmes (The Mystery of Edwin Drood, Curtains) with a score by First Date songwriters Michael Weiner and Alan Zachary. Scott Schwartz directs the musical which runs run through Oct. 6 at Seattle's 5th Avenue Theatre. Read the Playbill story.

Honeymoon in Vegas, Motown's National Tour, the Original Cast of The Drowsy Chaperone and More on the Next "On Stage Across America"

The October episode of "On Stage Across America" features the Paper Mill Playhouse production of Honeymoon in Vegas starring Rob McClure and Tony Danza and Motown The Musical as they prepare to take the show on the road for a national tour. Also, original cast members of The Drowsy Chaperone, including Sutton Foster and Beth Leavel, connect with a North Carolina school that is in the process of putting together a production of the show.

On the first Saturday of each month, "On Stage Across America" will bring interviews with Broadway stars, writers, producers and directors, as well as the latest theatre scoop, to Time Warner subscribers across the U.S. Check local listings.

 

Highlights From Sting's The Last Ship Concerts at the Public Theater

Taken from his experiences growing up in a shipbuilding town in North East England, pop superstar Sting's The Last Ship tells the tale of a father and son who aim to sail away from a dying industry. Featuring his first new songs in a decade, the musical — with book by John Logan (Red) and Brian Yorkey (Next to Normal) — aims for a 2014 Broadway bow. In the midst of a ten-show series of benefit concerts for the Public Theater, Sting performs songs from the show, which he also released as an album of the same name. Highlights included "The Last Ship," "What Have We Got," "Practical Arrangement" and "And Yet." Performances continue through Oct. 9 at the Anspacher Theater. Read the Playbill story.

 

Broadway on the High Seas 3: A High Time With Patti LuPone, Norm Lewis and Howard McGillin

Playbill's third Broadway on the High Seas cruise (Aug. 4-14, 2013) was a Baltic adventure featuring stops in Stockholm, Turku, Helsinki, St. Petersburg, Berlin and Copenhagen. Guest performers Patti LuPone, Norm Lewis and Howard McGillin were hosted by Seth Rudetsky, who also served as musical arranger and accompanist. The trip featured in-depth Broadway Chatterbox interviews, full-length concerts and some surprises — Anything Goes co-stars LuPone And McGillin had a special reunion and a former '70s and '80s TV star popped in for a song and an interview. Broadway on the High Seas 4 will visit Tahiti and surrounding French Polynesian Islands in early 2014 and boasts the likes of Audra McDonald, Sutton Foster and Brian Stokes Mitchell.

 

Highlights From Honeymoon in Vegas Starring Rob McClure and Tony Danza

Rob McClure, Tony Danza and Brynn O'Malley head the cast of the world-premiere production of Honeymoon in Vegas, the Jason Robert Brown (music and lyrics) and Andrew Bergman (book) musical based on the 1992 film penned by Bergman. Highlights include "Come to an Agreement," "Betsy's Getting Married," "Do Something" and "Isn't That Enough." The production runs through Oct. 27 at New Jersey's Paper Mill Playhouse. Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana Remember When at 54 Below

Tony nominees Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana, currently starring on Broadway in Cinderella, took the stage at 54 Below Sept. 23 to benefit the New York Pops Education Programs and Ronald McDonald House New York. The concert, called Remember When...A Benefit Evening of Music and Dining, was based around songs Osnes and Fontana sang as children, or that harkened back to their childhoods. The pair sang hits from musicals including Anything Goes, Annie Get Your Gun and It's a Bird...It's a Plane...It's Superman. For more on Remember When, read Playbill.com's report on the event.
