Pop singer Taylor Dayne, who made her Broadway debut in the Tony-winning musical Aida, will star as Grizabella in the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical Cats, which will be staged at the Merry-Go-Round Playhouse as part of the Finger Lakes Musical Theatre Festival this August.

Grammy Award nominee Dayne, known for her hit singles "Tell It To My Heart," "Don't Rush Me" and "Love Will Lead You Back," will lead the production that runs Aug. 21-Sept. 11. Dayne will perform the stand-out song "Memory" in the production.

Jacob Brent, the only cast member to appear in the Broadway, London and film versions of Cats, will direct and choreograph the musical.

Complete casting will be announced shortly.

Dayne made her Broadway debut as Amneris in Elton John and Tim Rice's Tony-winning musical Aida.

Based on T.S. Eliot's "Old Possum’s Book of Practical Cats," the musical became an international phenomenon and has continuously toured the U.S. for 30 years in various union and non-union productions. In 1991 Cats became the longest-running continuous tour in U.S. history. Cats produced the stand-out single "Memory."

Cats opened on Broadway at the Winter Garden Theatre Oct. 7, 1982, where it ran for 7,485 performances before closing Sept. 10, 2000. It held the title of Broadway's longest-running musical, but was surpassed by Lloyd Webber's other hit, The Phantom of the Opera, which currently holds the title. Cats won seven Tony Awards including Best Musical, Best Book of a Musical, Best Lighting and Best Costumes.

The Merry-Go-Round Playhouse season also includes The Great American Trailer Park Musical, Legally Blonde, Neurosis, Gentlemen Prefer Blondes, Hank Williams Lost Highway and The PITCH.
