13 Jun 2012
Stage and screen stars Greg Kinnear and Jennifer Westfeldt will head the cast of Stephen Belber's The Power of Duff at the New York Stage and Film's Powerhouse Theater this summer.
Peter DuBois (Sons of the Prophet, Becky Shaw) will direct the July 18-29 run on the Vassar College campus.
Joining Kinnear ("Little Miss Sunshine," "As Good As It Gets") and Westfeldt (Wonderful Town, "Kissing Jessica Stein") will be Desmin Borges, Dominic Fumusa, Neil Huff, Russell G. Jones, Ben Platt and Maura Tierney.
Here's how the play is billed: "In The Power of Duff, Charles Duff (Kinnear), a news anchor in a mid-market backwater, has an unexpected spiritual awakening on live TV. His prayers, and their answers, change his audience, his family, and his own life forever."
Belber's plays include Tape, Match, Dusk Rings a Bell and Fault Lines.
Holed up in a seedy motel on the edge of the Mojave Desert, two former lovers unpack the deep secrets and dark desires of their tangled relationship, passionately tearing each other apart. Led by director Daniel Aukin (Back Back Back at MTC, 4,000 Miles), Tony winner Nina Arianda (Venus in Fur at MTC, Born Yesterday) and Sam Rockwell (A Behanding in Spokane, The Way Way Back) bring an explosive intensity to Sam Shepard’s (Buried Child, True West) landmark myth of the new Wild West.
