Connick Does "In One" Scene for Audience at Pajama Game Performance While Ryan Recovers
By Robert Simonson
A career's worth of patter-filled concerts came in handy for Harry Connick, Jr., at the June 7 performance of the Broadway hit The Pajama Game. According to a report in the New York Times, when a mishap involving some stage furniture resulted in a slight injury for co-star Roz Ryan, Connick, the revival's Tony-nominated star, stepped in front of the curtain to entertain the crowd as matters were put right backstage. Connick "conducted a question-and-answer session, sang 'Happy Birthday' to someone in the audience and talked about the future of his native New Orleans and his high school career," reported the Times. Roughly a half-hour later, the conductor said "Harry, it's time," and the show continued. |
