Casting Announced for NYMF Bow of Canadian Musical This Could Be Love
By Matt Windman
Casting has been announced for the Canadian-created This Could Be Love at the New York Musical Theatre Festival. The cast will include Krista Sutton (She), who also appeared in the original Toronto production, and Canadian-born New York actor Graham Rowat (He), who appeared in Broadway's Dracula and played Bob Wallace in the 2005 San Francisco run of Irving Berlin's White Christmas. He was leading man opposite actress-wife Kate Baldwin there. Described as a sweet and cynical love story for our times, He is a jingle writer and She is a full-time temp. Stood up and fed up, they decide to cheat fate and fall in love, whether they like each other or not. After all, this could be love.
The creative team includes Brock Simpson (book, music, lyrics) and director Dennis Garnhum (artistic director of Theatre Calgary). Simpson has written indie musicals including Kid Canuck, Skyland, and Lust's Labour's Lost; and has co-written other musicals with Torontonians Lisa Lambert (co-songwriter of The Drowsy Chaperone) and John Mitchell.
