74th Annual Drama League Award Nominees Announced

Nominees for the 2007-2008 Drama League Awards, which will be held May 16 at the Marriott Marquis Hotel, were revealed April 22. Nominees were announced in four categories: Distinguished Production of a Musical, Play, Revival of a Musical and Revival of a Play. The nominees for the 74th Annual Drama League Awards follow:

Distinguished Revival of a Musical The Drama League Awards, according to press notes, "pay tribute to the season's best performers by honoring the nominees of The Distinguished Performance Award on a dais." The 74th Annual Drama League Awards dais will feature dozens of performers from the 2007-08 Broadway and Off-Broadway season, including the honorary co-chairs. This season's dais follows. One of these performers will be presented with the Distinguished Performance Award at the May 16 event.

Norbert Leo Butz, Is He Dead? As previously announced, the 74th Annual Drama League Awards Ceremony and Luncheon will be held May 16 in the Grand Ballroom of the Marriot Marquis Hotel. Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein will host the awards, co-chaired by Bobby Cannavale (Mauritius), Laurence Fishburne (Thurgood), Peter Gallagher (The Country Girl), Terrence Howard (Cat on a Hot Tin Roof), Cheyenne Jackson (Xanadu), Laura Linney (Les Liaisons Dangereuses) S. Epatha Merkerson (Come Back, Little Sheba), Rosie Perez (The Ritz), Martha Plimpton (Cymbeline) and Patrick Stewart (Macbeth). Paul Gemignani, Barlett Sher and Ellen Stewart will be honored by the Drama League with Specialty Awards. Renowned Broadway conductor, musical director and frequent Sondheim collaborator Gemignani (Follies, Pacific Overtures, Passion, Evita, Dreamgirls) will receive the Distinguished Achievement in Musical Theatre Award, while Tony nominee Sher (The Light in the Piazza, Awake and Sing!, South Pacific) will receive the Julia Hansen Award for Excellence in Directing. LaMaMa e.t.c. founder Ellen Stewart will be feted with the Unique Contribution to the Theatre Award.
