Gillian Anderson to Return to the London Stage in A Doll's House

Gillian Anderson will play Nora in a new version of Ibsen's A Doll's House that will open at London's Donmar Warehouse in the spring of 2009.

The production will mark Anderson's Donmar debut, although the "X-Files" star has been seen twice on the London stage, starring in Michael Weller's What the Night Is For at the Comedy Theatre in 2002 and in the world premiere of Rebecca Gilman's The Sweetest Swing in Baseball at the Royal Court in 2004.

The Chicago-born actress, who spent nine years of her childhood growing up in London, got her first stage break appearing in an Off-Broadway production of Alan Ayckbourn's Absent Friends in 1991, and subsequently appeared in Christopher Hampton's The Philanthropist at New Haven's Long Wharf Theatre. As well as her long-running role as Agent Scully in "The X-Files" on TV (which she played in 197 episodes between 1993 and 2002) and the 2008 film version, her other work on TV includes "Bleak House" and on film, "How to Lose Friends and Alienate People," "Boogie Woogie" and "The Last King of Scotland."

A Doll’s House will be presented in a new version by playwright, screenwriter and director Zinnie Harris (Solstice and Midwinter for the RSC, Nightingale and Chase for the Royal Court, Further from the Furthest Thing at the National and Tricycle, and By Many Wounds at Hampstead Theatre), and directed by Kfir Yefet (Is That All There Is? at the Almeida, Shimmer, Don't You Ever Call Me Anything But Mother at the Mermaid Theatre and The Soldier’s Tale).

The box office is not yet open, but will open in late 2008.
