Haidle's Saturn Returns Orbits Lincoln Center Beginning Oct. 16

Noah Haidle's latest work, Saturn Returns, under the direction of Nicholas Martin, begins performances at Lincoln Center's Mitzi E. Newhouse Theater Oct. 16.

The play, which presents a portrait of its central character at the ages of 28, 58 and 88, will officially open Off-Broadway Nov. 10. The production is currently scheduled to run through Jan. 4, 2009.

Saturn Returns reunites Haidle with director Martin, who directed Haidle's Persephone for the Huntington Theatre Company in 2007.

Haidle has penned the work so that three different actors — Robert Eli, John McMartin (Grey Gardens) and James Rebhorn (Twelve Angry Men) — portray Gustin at separate stages in his life. Actress Rosie Benton (Les Liaisons Dangereuses) inhabits all of the women depicted in the work.

"The planet Saturn's orbital return to its position at the moment of a person's birth happens every 30 years," press notes state. "In Saturn Returns, playwright Noah Haidle uses this phenomenon to take a look at one man – Gustin – during these pivotal moments as he confronts the three women in his life."

Designing Saturn Returns are Ralph Funicello (set design), Robert Morgan (costume design), Peter Kaczorowski (lighting design) and Mark Bennett (original music and sound design).
