Broadway to Dim Its Lights Nov. 20 in Honor of Late Clive Barnes
By Andrew Gans
The marquees of the Broadway theatres will be dimmed Nov. 20 at 8 PM for one minute to pay tribute to the late theatre and dance critic Clive Barnes, who died Nov. 19 at the age of 81. As a writer, Mr. Barnes was known for an erudite, breezy and at times playfully sassy style. Col Allan, editor-in-chief of the New York Post, said in a statement, "Clive Barnes was a genuine legend. For 30 years as a critic for the New York Post he wrote with honesty and a delightful whimsy. Clive's colleagues and the readers he served for so long are impoverished by his passing."
