"Doubt," "Frost/Nixon" and "Mamma Mia!" Among Golden Globe Nominees

Brooke Shields, Elizabeth Banks, Terrence Howard, Rainn Wilson and Hollywood Foreign Press Association president Jorge Camara announced the nominations for The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards Dec. 11 at The Beverly Hilton. "Doubt," the silver-screen adaptation of John Patrick Shanley's Pulitzer and Tony-winning play, picked up nominations for Meryl Streep (Actress-Drama), Philip Seymour Hoffman (Supporting Actor), Amy Adams (Supporting Actress), Viola Davis (Supporting Actress) and playwright Shanley (Screenplay - Motion Picture). "Frost/Nixon," the Ron Howard-directed film version of Peter Morgan's Tony-nominated play, earned nominations for Best Feature-Drama, Frank Langella (Actor-Drama), Morgan (Screenplay -Motion Picture), Howard (Best Director-Motion Picture) and Hanz Zimmer (Best Original Score-Motion Picture). In the television categories, the TV version of "A Raisin in the Sun," based on the recent Broadway revival, garnered a nomination for Best Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television. Among the numerous theatre actors recognized for their work in film and TV include Kristin Scott Thomas (currently on Broadway in The Seagull), Meryl Streep, Frank Langella (currently on Broadway in A Man for All Seasons), Frances McDormand, Viola Davis, Marisa Tomei, Ralph Fiennes, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sally Field, Gabriel Byrne, Michael C. Hall, Christina Applegate, Mary-Louise Parker, Alec Baldwin, Tony Shalhoub, Judi Dench, Laura Linney, Paul Giamatti, Kevin Spacey, Eileen Atkins, Dianne Wiest, Neil Patrick Harris, and Jeremy Piven (currently on Broadway in Speed-the-Plow), among others. The 66th Annual Golden Globe Awards will be presented Jan. 11, 2009, at The Beverly Hilton. NBC will broadcast the event live beginning at 8 PM ET. The annual awards ceremony will be produced by Dick Clark Productions in association with the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. Orly Adelson, president of dcp and Barry Adelman will executive produce. Chris Donovan is the director and dcp's Bob Bardo is the executive in charge of production.
