By Adam Hetrick
Casting has been announced for the TheatreWorks production of the Tony-nominated revue It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues, which begins performances March 11 in Palo Alto, CA.
Randal Myler directs the TheatreWorks engagement, which features original regional and Broadway performer "Mississippi" Charles Bevel as well as Alison Ewing, James Monroe Iglehart, Michelle E. Jordan, Tony Marcus, Chic Street Man and C. Kelly Wright.
It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues officially opens March 14 and will continue through April 5.
"From African chants and Delta spirituals to the urban electricity of a Chicago nightclub, from dusty backroads bluegrass, to the twang of a country juke joint, It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues," according to press notes, "is a stirring retrospective of blues classics that summons the soul of American music."
Over 50 songs are included in the revue, including "I'm Your Hoochie-Coochie Man," "Goodnight, Irene," "Fever," "Walkin' After Midnight," "The Thrill is Gone" and "Let the Good Times Roll."
Penned by Charles Bevel, Lita Gaithers, Randal Myler, Ron Taylor and Dan Wheetman, It Ain't Nothin' But the Blues began its life in numerous regional theatres prior to making its Broadway debut in 1999 where it ran for 289 performances.
