Will Taymor's Spider-Man Musical Open in 2010?
By Andrew Gans
The eagerly awaited Julie Taymor musical Spider-Man will likely open at Broadway's Hilton Theatre in early 2010, according to Bloomberg.com. No official announcement has been made about the forthcoming Broadway production. As previously reported, Evan Rachel Wood, who can be seen in the new film "The Wrestler," told IESB.net that she will play Mary Jane in Spider-Man. When asked whether her "Across the Universe" co-star, Jim Sturgess, would star in the title role, Wood said that the creative team is "still trying to convince him." Wood and Sturgess took part in an earlier workshop of Spider-Man. Lion King Tony winner Taymor will direct Spider-Man, which features a score by Bono and The Edge of U2. The comic giant Marvel Entertainment will share producing credits with Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle and Martin McCallum. The Hilton Theatre, most recently the home of Young Frankenstein, is located in Manhattan at 213 West 42nd Street. |
