Hair Revival's Cast Album to Get June Release After May Digital Bow

The 2009 Broadway cast recording of the critically acclaimed revival of Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical, starring Tony Award nominees Will Swenson and Gavin Creel, will arrive in stores June 23. The energetic young cast of the Tony-nominated revival recorded the cast album on April 6. It has been fast-tracked for the early summer release. The 37-track single-disc recording will be available for download on iTunes May 26 prior to the June in-store date. Kurt Deutsch, Joel Moss, Galt McDermot and Bill Rosenfield produce the recording for Ghoslight Records. The 2009 recording of Hair will include the curtain-call reprises of the musical's title song and "Let the Sun Shine In." The complete track listing for Hair follows:
"Aquarius" Featuring book and lyrics by the late Gerome Ragni and James Rado and music by Galt MacDermot, the Broadway revival of Hair opened to rave reviews on Broadway March 31 at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. Under the direction of Diane Paulus, Hair arrived on Broadway after a run as part of the Public Theater's Shakespeare in the Park in summer 2008. The cast of the Broadway revival of Hair features Will Swenson as Berger, Tony nominee Gavin Creel as Claude, Sasha Allen as Dionne, Caissie Levy as Sheila, Allison Case as Crissy, Kacie Sheik as Jeanie, Bryce Ryness as Woof, Darius Nichols as Hud, Megan Lawrence as Mother and Andrew Kober as Margaret Mead/Dad. Tribe members also include Steel Burkhardt, Lauren Elder, Allison Guinn, Anthony Hollock, John Moauro, Ato Blankson-Wood, Brandon Pearson, Paris Remillard, Maya Sharpe, Theo Stockman, Tommar Wilson, Jackie Burns, Kaitlin Kiyan, Nicole Lewis, Megan Reinking and Saycon Sengbloh. Producers recently announced that a national tour of the new Broadway revival of Hair will launch during the 2010-2011 season. Hair was the first indoor production produced by the Public Theater (at the time known as the New York Shakespeare Festival), inaugurating the Public's current Lafayette Street address. Under the direction of Gerald Freeman, Hair premiered at the Public Oct. 17, 1967 and ran for six-weeks, prior to transferring to the Cheetah discotheque, where it ran through January of 1968. A retooled version of Hair, under the direction of the late Tom O'Horgan, featuring an augmented score, shortened book, the now infamous nude scene and author-lyricist James Rado in the role of Claude, opened on Broadway April 29, 1968 at the Biltmore Theatre where it ran for 1,750 performances. The original 1968 cast recording of Hair earned a Grammy Award. Songs from the popular musical have been recorded by Barbra Streisand, Liza Minnelli, Shirley Bassey, Diana Ross, Nina Simone, The Fifth Dimension, The Cowsills and Three Dog Night.
