Four time Tony-winning actress Audra McDonald, Tony winner Cynthia Nixon, Cheyenne Jackson and the cast of the Tony-nominated revival of Hair will be part of the Love, Peace & Marriage Equality rally in midtown Manhattan on May 17.

The event has been organized in support of New York State Governor David Paterson's proposed bill, which would grant same-sex couples the equal right to enter a civil marriage in the Empire State.

From 5-7 PM supporters of the New York State marriage equality bill will gather at the corner of 6th Avenue and 44th Street. Tony nominee and Broadway Impact co-founder Gavin Creel (Hair, Thoroughly Modern Millie) will host the event that will include words and performances from McDonald (Ragtime, Twelfth Night), Jackson (Xanadu), Nixon (Rabbit Hole, "Sex in the City"), Kristin Davis ("Sex in the City"), cast members of Hair (performing "Let the Sun Shine In") as well as marriage equality bill sponsor Senator Tom Duane and Assemblyman Daniel O'Donnell.

"I am thrilled that we are able to come together as a community to urge people to take direct action by calling their State Senators," said Creel in a statement. "This peaceful rally is going to be about love – and the right to marry whoever it is that you love."

Paterson first presented the marriage equality bill on April 16. Should the bill come to pass, New York State would be the sixth state to grant same-sex couples the equal right to marry, following Massachusetts, Iowa, Maine, Connecticut and Vermont. New Hampshire's legislature approved its own marriage equality bill and is awaiting the signature of Governor John Lynch.
