GrooveLily's Sleeping Beauty Wakes Will Receive TheatreWorks Concert
By Adam Hetrick
GrooveLily band members Brendan Milburn, Valerie Vigoda and Gene Lewin will perform a benefit concert of their musical Sleeping Beauty Wakes at Palo Alto's TheatreWorks in 2010. According to press notes, GrooveLily members "give this classic children's story an exciting and decidedly modern twist when, after her centuries long snooze, Beauty wakes to find herself far from her magic kingdom, in a contemporary sleep disorder clinic where all the princes seem to have disappeared." Millburn, Vigoda and Lewin will perform music and vocals in the concert. Sleeping Beauty Wakes was released on disc by PS Classics last season. Their latest musical, Ernest Shackleton Loves Me, was presented as part of TheatreWorks' 2009 New Works Festival. Tickets, ranging $75-$225 (VIP), are available by phoning (650) 463-1960 or by visiting TheatreWorks. Proceeds will benefit TheatreWorks' education and outreach programs. The Lucie Stern Theatre is located at 1305 Middlefield Road in Palo Alto, CA. |
