Gregory Itzin and Amy Pietz Added to L.A. Cast of Enron
By Adam Hetrick
Gregory Itzin and Amy Pietz will go into business with Steven Weber in the L.A. Theatre Works production of Lucy Prebble's Enron in October.
Rosalind Ayres will stage Prebble's vaudevillian look at corporate American that will be presented Oct. 20-24 at the Skirball Center. The play famously makes use of music, "Star Wars" imagery and dinosaurs to comment on the American business model.
Itzin, who originated the role of Kenneth Lay in the Broadway company, will repeat his performance in Los Angeles. Pietz will portray Claudia Roe. Susan Albert Loewenberg will produce the LATW run.
Enron is described as "a rapid-fire, sophisticated thrill-ride that propels the audience through one of the most infamous financial scandals in history. Using a clever mix of humor, pathos, and music, the big biz machinations of Kenneth Lay, Jeffrey Skilling and Andy Fastow are laid bare as razzle-dazzle entertainment, casting a shocking new light on the state of today’s economy and how we got here."
Enron arrived on Broadway last April after an acclaimed London run which concluded in August. Enron failed to ignite its Broadway box office and shuttered after 37 performances in May. It earned four Tony Award nominations, including Best Featured Actor in a Play (Stephen Kunken), Best Lighting Design of a Play (Mark Henderson), Best Sound Design of a Play (Adam Cork) and Best Score (music by Adam Cork, lyrics by Lucy Prebble).
All LATW productions are recorded and broadcast on LATW's nationally syndicated radio theatre series, "The Play's the Thing."
For tickets to any of "The Play's the Thing" productions at the Skirball Cultural Center, 2701 N. Sepulveda Boulevard, call the L.A. Theatre Works box office at (310) 827-0889.
