Lois Robbins, Don Noble, John Herrera and More to Bloom in Cactus Flower
By Adam Hetrick
Lois Robbins, Don Noble, John Wernke and John Herrera will appear in the Capital Rep production of Abe Burrows' romantic 1965-set comedy Cactus Flower.
Noble will star as Julian, a commitment-phobic dentist who pretends to be married in order to avoid getting too close for comfort with the women he dates. Robbins ("All My Children") will star as the dental assistant who comes to the rescue when Julian hopes to marry his young girlfriend (who's just dying to meet his "wife").
The cast will also feature Broadway actors Wernke (The Royal Family) as Igor, Herrera (Man of La Mancha) as Arturro Sanchez and Robin Skye (Parade) as Mrs. Durant. Completing the cast are Toni Trucks (Stormy Weather) as Toni, Anthony Reimer as Harvey and Olivia Mogul as Boticelli’s Springtime.
Former Manhattan Theatre Club artist Michael Bush will stage the production that runs Oct. 22-Nov. 14. An official opening has been set for Oct. 27.
The late Abe Burrows earned a Pulitzer Prize for the book to the Frank Loesser musical How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying (which he also directed). He also teamed with Loesser on the Tony-winning Broadway classic Guys and Dolls. His works for the stage include Can-Can, Silk Stockings, First Impressions, Breakfast at Tiffany's and Say, Darling.
