Shoshana Bean, Morgan James, Carrie Manolakos and Nick Dalton will appear in a New York concert of the new musical Jawbreaker Dec. 12 at the Canal Room.

Following the Los Angeles concert presentations in July, the musical based on the 1999 film about conniving high school girls will take to the stage at 9 PM. Jen Bender will direct the concert, which will have music direction by James Sampliner (Legally Blonde).

"Jawbreaker" screenwriter and director Darren Stein also penned the book to the musical that has music and lyrics by Jonathan Larson Award winners Jeff Thomson and Jordan Mann. The score promises songs ranging from Lady Gaga-style synth pop to lush melodic ballads.

In addition to Bean (Wicked), James (Addams Family), Manolakos (Wicked) and Dalton (Legally Blonde), the concert will feature Deborah S. Craig (Spelling Bee), Katie Kern, Eric Michael Krop, Bobby List, Tracy McDowell (Rent), Jonathan Shew and Katie Thompson (Bloodties).

According to the writers, Jawbreaker "tells the Faustian tale of Satan-in-heels Courtney Shayne and her mean girl minions who play a nasty birthday prank on their picture-perfect bestie, asphyxiating her with a jawbreaker ball and accidentally killing her. When mousy Fern Mayo catches the flawless four tucking their dead friend back into bed, Courtney promises to make Fern popular in exchange for keeping their secret, implicating the innocent underling in their ill-fated cover up. With its mythic story, candy color fashions and bitch goddess role of Courtney Shayne, Jawbreaker was a natural to translate to the stage. At its core, Jawbreaker is about the lengths we go to belong, even if that means selling your soul for a taste of life with the beautiful ones."
