By Andrew Gans
Monday Nights, New Voices, the acclaimed concert series founded by composer Scott Alan to "showcase some of today's brightest new talent in New York," continues its eighth and final season Feb. 28 at the Duplex Cabaret Theatre.
In addition to spotlighting up-and-coming talent, the final season is welcoming back many of the series' successful alumni as hosts. Hosting the second concert of the season is Legally Blonde's Kate Wetherhead, who appeared in the Sept. 25, 2005, New Voices concert.
The 7 PM concert celebrates the work of songwriters Alan Zachary and Michael Weiner, who will be on hand to join performers on selections from their songbook and offer stories about their songs. Paul Staroba is the evening's musical director.
Performers include J. David Anderson, Kyle Kleiboeker, Analisa Leaming, Allison Linker and Stephen Mark Lukas.
Kate Wetherhead has appeared on Broadway in The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee and Legally Blonde: the Musical and Off-Broadway in Ordinary Days (the original cast album now available on itunes), Sarah, Plain and Tall; Tatjana in Color; and Cam Jansen.
Scott Alan's newest recording, "What I Wanna Be When I Grow Up," is now available on CDbaby.com, Amazon.com and iTunes. "What I Wanna Be When I Grow Up" follows Alan's earlier studio recordings, "Dreaming Wide Awake" and "Keys."
The Duplex Cabaret Theatre is located in Manhattan at 61 Christopher Street. There is a $12 music charge and a two-drink minimum; for reservations call (212) 255-5438 or visittheduplex.com.
