PHOTO CALL: Mamma Mia! Stars Serve Free Ice Cream to Fans
By Matthew Blank
Mamma Mia!, now in its 10th year on Broadway, has been celebrating the summer by serving up free ice cream cones to fans outside the Winter Garden Theatre every weekend in July.
Beginning July 2, the show joined forces with Mister Softee to offer fans a free soft serve ice cream with the presentation of a ticket stub.
Here is a look at the cast and crowds enjoying their summertime treat:
A Mister Softee truck will be parked on Broadway beneath the Mamma Mia! marquee between 12:30 and 1:30 PM on scheduled dates in July. The offer is valid for same day only with matinee ticket purchase. Date of performance must match date of ice cream redemption. Offer is good while supplies last. 350 ice cream cones or cups will be available on first come first serve basis.
Additional Mamma Mia! Mister Softee days will run July 23 and July 31.
Mamma Mia! employs the hit songs of famed pop group ABBA to tell the story of Sophie Sheridan, a young girl who hopes to discover the identity of her father. On the eve of her wedding, she brings three men from her mother Donna's past back to the Greek island they visited over two decades ago.
Mamma Mia! features music and lyrics by Benny Andersson and Björn Ulvaeus, a book by Catherine Johnson, direction by Phyllida Lloyd and choreography by Anthony Van Laast.
The musical was a hit in London, where it still plays, before arriving on Broadway. The production also spawned a hit film starring Oscar winner Meryl Streep.
The Winter Garden Theatre is located in Manhattan at 1634 Broadway. For more information visit www.mamma-mia.com.
