Hallelujah! Broadway's Sister Act to Perform On "Dancing With the Stars"
By Adam Hetrick
Tony Award nominee Patina Miller and the Broadway cast of Sister Act will perform live on the Oct. 24 episode of ABC's "Dancing With the Stars."
Miller (Hair) originated the role of Deloris Van Cartier in the London production of Sister Act and earned both Olivier and Tony Award nominations for her work. Producers have not revealed which song from the disco-kissed musical the cast will perform.
Sister Act arrived on Broadway in April after a year-long London run. Stage Entertainment, along with Whoopi Goldberg, who starred in the 1992 film comedy about a nun on the run, are among the lead producers of the 1970s-set musical that has a Tony-nominated score by Academy Award-winning composer Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast) and lyricist Glenn Slater (Love Never Dies).
Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Lysistrata Jones, The Little Dog Laughed, Xanadu) revamped the book for the Broadway production, which bills London book writers Cheri and Bill Steinkellner as co-authors. Tony Award winner Jerry Zaks (The Addams Family, Guys and Dolls) directed the Broadway production.
The Sister Act cast also boasts Tony Award winner Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza) as Mother Superior, Fred Applegate (Young Frankenstein) as Monsignor, Sarah Bolt (Wicked) as Sister Mary Patrick, John Treacy Egan (The Producers) as Joey, Demond Green (The Toxic Avenger) as TJ, Chester Gregory (Dreamgirls) as Eddie, Kingsley Leggs (The Color Purple) as Curtis, Marla Mindelle (South Pacific) as Sister Mary Robert, Audrie Neenan (Picnic) as Sister Mary Lazarus and Caesar Samayoa (The Pee-wee Herman Show) as Pablo.
"Dancing With the Stars" airs Monday and Tuesday nights on ABC at 8 PM ET.
