Academy Award winner Julian Fellowes, who penned the book for Broadway's Mary Poppins and is also the creator of the hit BBC/PBS series "Downton Abbey," is at work on a new screen adaptation of Romeo and Juliet.

Deadline.com reports that Carlo Carlie will direct Fellowes' script. The cast will feature Tom Wisdom, Haillee Steinfeld, Douglas Booth, Ed Westwick and Paul Giamatti.

Booth was previously reported to play Romeo opposite Steinfeld as Juliet.

Shakespeare's romantic "tale of woe" about the star-crossed lovers has had two iconic film adaptations: The 1968 Franco Zeffirelli version and Baz Lurhmann's gritty 1996 incarnation.
