Laura Osnes, Richard Fleeshman and More Join Lineup for Scott Alan CD "Live"; "Behind the Scenes" Concert Added
By Andrew Gans
Additional artists have been announced for composer-lyricist Scott Alan's fourth recording, "Live," which follows his critically acclaimed "What I Wanna Be When I Grow Up," "Dreaming Wide Awake" and "Keys."
Newly announced for the disc are jazz vocalist Jane Monheit, recent Bonnie & Clyde star Laura Osnes and Richard Fleeshman, who will make his Broadway debut in Ghost.
These artists join the previously reported Shoshana Bean, Stephanie J. Block, Sierra Boggess, Liz Callaway, Ann Hampton Callaway, Louise Dearman, Kerry Ellis, Christopher Jackson, Jeremy Jordan, Mykal Kilgore, Caissie Levy, Stuart Matthew Price, Lea Salonga, Melissa van der Schyff, Oliver Tompsett, Willemijn Verkaik, Natalie Weiss and Raena White as well as recording artists Marc Broussard and RJ Helton. A fall release is expected.
A previously unreleased studio recording of one of Alan's compositions, featuring Ramin Karimloo and Hadley Fraser, will be included as a bonus track.
A majority of the album, which will be produced by the composer and StylesFour Productions, will be recorded live at Alan's already sold-out Birdland concert on April 30 at 7 PM. The recording will feature musical direction, arrangements and orchestrations by Jesse Vargas. Due to Monday-night Broadway schedules, some talent will record their tracks prior to the 7 PM concert.
In addition to the performers announced, Alan is providing an opportunity for an unknown talent to be featured on the album and record a new song by the composer. For more information on the "I'm a Star" contest by Alan and YouTube sensation Michael Buckley, visit www.scottalan.net. The contest ends March 15, and the winner will be announced April 1.
Because the 7 PM concert is already sold out, Birdland has added a 3 PM "Behind the Scenes" concert, which will also serve as a sound check for the performers and the musicians. Due to performance schedules, not all performers will be on hand for the afternoon concert; audiences should also expect retakes and stops during the concert. Tickets are $25 for the 3 PM concert; no drinks or food will be served. There is also no age requirement. Doors will open at 2:30 PM for general seating. To purchase tickets, call (212) 581-3080 or visit http://www.birdlandjazz.com/event/104359.
Alan’s show with playwright Christy Hall, Home, is aiming for a Broadway debut in the fall. Home is being produced by StylesFour Productions, whose credits also include Once, Spring Awakening and Driving Miss Daisy.
