Songs and S'Mores: New Musical Fat Camp, Starring Carly Jibson, Begins Off-Broadway April 12

Fat Camp, the new coming-of-age musical set at a summer camp for overweight teens, begins performances Off-Broadway April 12 at the American Theatre of Actors.
Casey Hushion (associate director of In the Heights) directs the production that is currently selling tickets through May 13. Opening night is set for April 29. Fat Camp has a book by Randy Blair and Timothy Michael Drucker, music by Matt roi Berger and lyrics by Blair.
Rock of Ages producers Carl Levin and Michael Minarik have partnered with The Dodgers to bring the musical to New York audiences. The team was also involved in a 2010 reading and a 2011 developmental staging at Cleveland's PlayhouseSquare. An earlier version was also presented during the 2009 New York Musical Theatre Festival, where the musical took the Best of Fest Award.
The cast includes Carly Jibson as Daphne, a veteran of Broadway's Hairspray and Cry-Baby, who has been part of Fat Camp throughout its development. Also returning from the NYMF run are Cale Krise as Anshell, Kate Weber as Britta, Larry Owens as Darnell, Nancy Renée Braun, Michael Mendez and Tracy Weiler.
The Off-Broadway cast also features Daniel Everidge as Robert, Molly Hager as Taylor, Jared Zirilli as Brent, Marcus Neville as Mike, Janet Dickinson as Sandy, Charles Barksdale, Michael Buchanan, Bridie Carroll and Jennifer Foster.
The creators describe Fat Camp as "the story of a rock 'n' roll rebel and the place where he proves he's more than meets the eye: Camp Overton."
Kelly Devine (Rock of Ages) choreographs. The production has scenic design by Beowulf Boritt, costume design by David Woolard, lighting design by Jason Lyons and sound design by Matt Kraus. Jason DeBord is musical director.
