May 16 Matinee of Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark Welcomes One-Millionth Audience Member
By Andrew Gans
Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark welcomed its one-millionth audience member at the May 16 matinee performance at the Foxwoods Theatre.
The record-breaking audience member was Yvelisse Fermin from Flushing, Queens.
In a statement producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris said, "We’ve always said that the most gratifying part of producing this show is seeing the amazing audience reaction night after night. It is mind-blowing that more than one-million audience-members have already walked through our doors, and we look forward to welcoming millions more.”
According to statistical information provided by The Broadway League, Spider-Man reached today's milestone faster than any other production in recorded Broadway history.
The musical features music and lyrics by Grammy winners Bono and The Edge, direction by Philip William McKinley and a book co-written by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Scenic designer George Tsypin and costume designer Eiko Ishioka are winners of Outer Critics Circle Awards and were recently nominated for Tonys for their work on Spider-Man.
