The Mountaintop's Samuel L. Jackson Will Host 2012 BET Awards; Angela Bassett, Viola Davis Among Nominees

Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson, who last seen on Broadway in The Mountaintop, will host the 2012 BET Awards, which will air live July 1 from the Historic Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.



Jackson's Mountaintop co-star, Angela Bassett, and "The Help" star Viola Davis are among the nominees for Best Actress. Also nominated are Don Cheadle (Topdog/Underdog), Usher (Chicago), Beyoncé ("Dreamgirls"), Mary J. Blige ("Rock of Ages"), Chris Brown, Kobe Bryant, Common, Jay-Z, Bruno Mars, Rihanna, Willow Smith and Kanye West, among others.

Singers Brown and Nicki Minaj will be among the performers at the 2012 awards ceremony, which is scheduled to begin at 8 PM ET.

Jackson also appeared on Broadway in The Piano Lesson. An Academy Award nominee for "Pulp Fiction," his other screen credits include "The Sunset Limited," the "Iron Man" films, "Freedomland," "Snakes on a Plane," the "Star Wars" prequels, "The Incredibles," "Unbreakable," "The Negotiator," "Jackie Brown," "Eve's Bayou" and "Jurassic Park," among others.
