Traces, Hay Fever, Mike Daisey's Steve Jobs and More Offered at 2012 Spoleto Festival Beginning May 25

The 2012 Spoleto Festival USA, featuring performances by renowned artists as well as emerging performers in opera, theatre and dance as well as chamber, symphonic, choral and jazz music, is offered May 25-June 10 in Charleston, SC.
The 35th season features Mike Daisey's The Agony and the Ecstasy of Steve Jobs, which was seen earlier this year at Off-Broadway's Public Theater, and the acrobatic theatrical event Traces, which currently plays the Union Square Theatre. Agony and Ecstasy will play May 31 and June 2-5, and Traces will play June 6-10.
Other theatre highlights include Daisey's Teching in India, held June 6; The Animals and Children Took to the Streets, which blends live action and projected animation, May 25-June 3; Noël Coward’s Hay Fever, May 24-June 10; Jack Hitt's solo show, Making Up the Truth, May 25-28; and Leo, in which Tobias Wegner defies the laws of gravity, May 24-29.
Spoleto also includes the American premieres of two operatic works: Kepler, composed by Philip Glass, May 26-June 2; and Feng Yi Ting, Guo Wenjing’s contemporary opera of love, power and political intrigue, May 27-June 7.
Alvin Ailey American Dance Theater (May 25-27), Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet (June 1-2), Kyle Abraham's The Radio Show (June 1-4), and Zoe Scofield and Juniper Shuey's A Crack in Everything (June 6-10) are among the dance offerings at the festival.
Additional concerts will be given by Grammy Award-winning vocalist k.d. lang (June 3), gospel singer Mavis Staples (June 6) and New Orleans' Grammy-nominated Rebirth Brass Band (June 8-9).
