A host of stage and screen stars took part in The 24 Hour Plays Benefit, presented by Montblanc and Urban Arts Partnership, June 16 in Los Angeles.
Produced by Kevin Chinoy and Francesca Silvestri of the Freestyle Picture Company and the 24 Hour Company, the entire creative process, from writing to directing and performing, took place in under 24 hours.
The event featured the talents of Sasha Alexander, Jason Biggs, Josh Dallas, Brooklyn Decker, Edi Gathegi, Ashley Greene, Joshua Jackson, Alexander Ludwig, Lamorne Morris, Diane Neal, Rosie Perez, Jason Ritter, Ramon Rodriguez, Tracie Thoms and Wilmer Valderrama.
Writers included Wendy West, Rachel Axler, Darlene Hunt and Tim Dowling. Directors included Leigh Kilton Smith, Andy Fickman and Victor Nelli.
The creative process began 10 PM June 15. Six writers, six directors, 24 actors, a musical guest and production team met at The Broad Stage, Santa Monica (1310 11th Street, Santa Monica CA). Each cast member brainstormed ideas before the writers began composing the plays, which were to be completed by 6 AM June 16. With only 12 hours to rehearse, the actors performed the six new plays, interspersed with musical acts, June 16.
The proceeds from the event benefit Urban Arts Partnership, a non-profit organization "dedicated to advancing the intellectual, social and artistic development of underserved public school students through arts- integrated education programs to close the achievement gap."
