Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark Producers Having Difficulty Finding Suitable London Venue for High-Flying Musical
By Michael Gioia
Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark lead producers Michael Cohl and Jeremiah J. Harris took a recent trip to the West End, where they scouted venues for a London production of Broadway's high-flying Spider-Man musical. According to the British Daily Mail, Cohl and Harris visited the London Palladium and the Theatre Royal Drury Lane, among others, but came to find that Spider-Man Turn Off the Dark, the multi-million-dollar musical at Broadway's Foxwoods Theatre, is too big for the London stage. Rick Miramontez, a spokesperson for the production, told Playbill.com, "Michael Cohl and Jeremiah Harris would like to mount a production in London, but there simply isn't a theatre that can handle the size of Spider-Man. They remain optimistic that something can work out at some point." Spider-Man Turn Off The Dark features music and lyrics by Bono and The Edge, direction by Philip William McKinley and a book co-written by Julie Taymor, Glen Berger and Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa. Also producing the Broadway musical are Land Line Productions, Hello Entertainment/David Garfinkle/Tony Adams, Sony Pictures Entertainment, Norton Herrick and Herrick Entertainment, Billy Rovzar & Fernando Rovzar, Stephen Bronfman, Jeffrey B. Hecktman, Omneity Entertainment/Richard G. Weinberg, James L. Nederlander, Terry Allen Kramer, S2BN Entertainment, Jam Theatricals, The Mayerson/Gould/Hauser/Tysoe Group, Patricia Lambrecht, and Paul McGuinness, by arrangement with Marvel Entertainment.
