Book of Mormon's Andrew Rannells Takes It Off in "Bachelorette" Film; Comedy Available on VOD Aug. 10
By Andrew Gans
"Magic Mike" stars Channing Tatum, Matthew McConaughey, Joe Manganiello, Alex Pettyfer and Matt Bomer aren't the only actors displaying their chiseled physiques on movie screens this summer.
Andrew Rannells, a Tony nominee for his performance in the Tony-winning Book of Mormon, plays a stripper in the upcoming film "Bachelorette," an adaptation of Leslye Headland's play of the same name.
The film, written and directed by Headland, is based on her Off-Broadway play, which was presented in summer 2010 as part of Second Stage Theatre's Uptown Series. Bachelorette's run was extended twice and played through Aug. 28, 2010, at the McGinn/Cazale Theatre.
Due in movie theatres Sept. 7, the comedy is also available on VOD Aug. 10 (as well as iTunes, Amazon and Xbox).
"Bachelorette," according to production notes, is described as such: "On the night before an old friend's wedding, three frisky bridesmaids go searching for a little fun but find much more than they bargained for. With lovely Becky (Rebel Wilson) set to marry her handsome sweetheart, Dale (Hayes MacArthur), the remaining members of her high school clique reunite for one last bachelorette bacchanal in the Big Apple. Regan (Kirsten Dunst) is an overachieving, ueber-Maid of Honor who's secretly smarting over the fact that she's not the first to marry, while Gena (Lizzy Caplan) is a whip-smart sarcastic who's actually a closet romantic, and Katie (Isla Fisher) is a ditzy beauty who loves the good life. But when Becky insists on keeping the bachelorette party tame, the women proceed with an after-hours celebration of their own."
Rannells' previous Broadway outings include leading roles in Jersey Boys and Hairspray. He received a Tony nomination for his performance in Mormon and will be seen this fall in the new NBC comedy "The New Normal."
