On Aug. 15 the Tony Award-winning Disney musical The Lion King became the fifth longest-running show in Broadway history. The spectacle based on the hit animated film now plays the Minskoff Theatre, but first debuted at the New Amsterdam Theatre in 1997.

Playbill.com has collected our favorite performances from the production that was staged and conceived by Julie Taymor. It features songs by Elton John and Tim Rice, as well as additional musical material by South African Lebo M, Mark Mancina, Jay Rifkin, Taymor and Hans Zimmer; and music from "Rhythm of the Pride Lands," an album inspired by the original music in the film, written by Lebo M, Mark Mancina and Hans Zimmer.
