Academy Award winner Renée Zellweger is planning to star in a Broadway stage adaptation of Walter Tevis' 1959 novel "The Hustler," according to Deadline.com.

Screenwriter Anthony Tambakis ("Warrior") is penning the stage adaptation that will be directed by Gavin O'Connor ("Tumbleweeds," "Warrior"). Zellweger and Tambakis are also collaborating on the film "4 1/2 Minutes," which the actress will direct and star in.

"The Hustler," which centers on an ambitious pool shark and the doomed woman who loves him, was adapted into a 1961 film starring Paul Newman and Piper Laurie.

Dates of production for The Hustler have not been revealed. Zellweger will begin shooting "4 1/2" minutes in New York in February 2013.

Zellweger earned an Oscar for "Cold Mountain." She was Academy Award-nominated for playing Roxie Hart in "Chicago" and for her work in "Bridget Jones' Diary."
