By Krissie Fullerton
Rodney Hicks and Randy Scholz co-star in the Village Theatre production of the Tony Award-winning country musical Big River — based on Mark Twain's classic "The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn" — which began performances Sept. 12 in Issaquah, WA.
The Village production features several cast members performing musical instruments on stage. Music director Symons leads a six-piece band. The orchestrations have been enhanced to bring out the flair of Miller's country score.
Hicks (The Scottsboro Boys, Jaqcues Brel..., "Grimm") portrays Jim, with Scholz as Huck Finn. The cast also features Richard Gray (The King), Greg McCormick Allen (The Duke), David Anthony Lewis (Pap), Taylor Niemeyer (Mary Jane), John David Scott (Tom Sawyer), Stacie Pinkney Calkins (Alice), Ben Wynant (Jo Harper), Matt Wade (Simon), Cheryl Massey-Peters (Widow Douglas), Jayne Muirhead (Miss Watson), Claudine Mboligikpelani Nako (Alice’s Daughter) and John Patrick Lowrie (Mark Twain). The ensemble players include Indeah Thomaier, Ekello Harrid Jr., Marq Johnson, BoJohn Diciple, Gabriel Corey, Josh Krupke, Lindsey Larson and Jessica Low.
