"Go Back Where You Stayed Last Night!," New CD from Jacques Brel's Gay Marshall, Will Be Released on ITunes
By Andrew Gans
Gay Marshall, acclaimed for her performance in the revival of Jacques Brel Is Alive and Well And Living in Paris and for her debut solo recording "Gay Marshall Sings Piaf, La Vie L’Amour," will release her sophomore recording, "Go Back Where You Stayed Last Night!," on iTunes Nov. 27.
The disc, which was previously available through Amazon and CDBaby, is described as a collection of “foot-stompin’, hand-clappin’, good time blues” dating from the 20’s and 30’s. It includes seldom-recorded songs by Ethel Waters and Sidney Easton plus 14 more from names like Sippie Wallace, Fletcher Henderson, Joe “King” Oliver, Jimmy Cox and other early masters of an original American art form. Marshall wrote additional lyrics for three songs.
“Ethel Waters was my main inspiration to perform this style of music,” Marshall said in an earlier statement, “but all the incredible artists who wrote and sang these tunes changed my life forever for the better.”
Marshall is backed by Mike Sands on piano, Tony Koussa on saxophone, Roy King on drums, Martin Block on bass and Bruce Lehtinen on trombone.
