The new reality series "Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual" will take audiences into the personal life of the Grammy Award-winning recording artist who is making her debut as a Broadway composer with the new musical Kinky Boots.

As previously reported, Lauper penned music and lyrics for the stage musical adaptation of Kinky Boots, which has a book by Tony Award winner Harvey Fierstein. It officially opens its pre-Broadway world-premiere engagement Oct. 17 in Chicago. Kinky Boots will arrive on Broadway March 5, 2013, at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre, under the direction of Tony Award winner Jerry Mitchell.

WE Television has not announced an air date for "Cyndi Lauper: Still So Unusual," but the series promises to delve into her multiple roles as a rock star, Broadway composer, philanthropist, wife and mother. Featured in the series will be her husband David Thornton and their 13-year-old son, Declyn.

According to WE, "Cyndi will explore the life of an artist who passionately pursues her creative endeavors, work demands and family life without compromising on any of them. She may be constantly running to keep up, but Cyndi's true colors show equally at a glamorous photo shoot and while cheering on Declyn at a hockey game."

Lauper also published "Cyndi Lauper: A Memoir," which was released in September.
