The Whale Resumes Off-Broadway Performances Oct. 31; Storm Discount Available
By Kenneth Jones
The New York City premiere of The Whale, Samuel D. Hunter's character study of a housebound, morbidly obese man, resumes performances 7:30 PM Oct. 31 following canceled performances on Sunday and Tuesday nights.
Playwrights Horizons on West 42nd Street didn't suffer a blackout due to Hurricane Sandy (as did its Off-Broadway sister theatres below 38th Street, since Monday), but storm conditions and shuttered subways contributed to the decision to cancel performances.
For the Oct. 31 return performance, Playwrights Horizons is offering a "Hurricane Special" of $10 tickets, in person at the door, based on availability. Mention code "Sandy." Offer good in-person only, not via advance online or phone sales.
The play by Obie Award winner Hunter is directed by Davis McCallum. The Whale is currently in previews at Playwrights Horizons' intimate 199-seat Peter Jay Sharp Theater at 416 W. 42nd Street.
The cast features Tony Award and Obie Award winner Shuler Hensley, Theatre World Award winner Cassie Beck, Reyna de Courcy, Tasha Lawrence and Cory Michael Smith.
