Lisa Brescia, James Barbour and Natalie Belcon will take part in a reading of the new musical Lempicka, about the life of art deco artist Tamara di Lempicka, Nov. 9 in Manhattan.

Commissioned by Yale Rep and New Dramatists, the musical has book and lyrics by Carson Kreitzer and music by Matt Gould.

Mark Wing-Davey (Mad Forest) will direct the reading that will feature Brescia (Wicked) in the title role. The cast also features Barbour (Jane Eyre, A Tale of Two Cities), Belcon (Avenue Q), Gabrielle Stravelli, Dashiell Eaves (A Beheading in Spokane), Michael Pemberton (The Farnsworth Invention), Izzy Hanson-Johnston (Billy Elliot), Nicolette Robinson (Perfect Couples), Rhyn McLemore (The Last Scene), Bjorn Thorstad, Philip Callen, Kevin Massey (Memphis), Michael Rose (Wicked), Charl Brown (Sister Act), Erin Bennett and Mariand Torres (Wicked).

Lempicka will have musical direction by Ian Axness. Julia Murney (Wicked, Wild Party, Falling) led the cast of a June workshop of the musical.

According to the authors, Lempicka "is set around the erratic artist's life in Paris between the wars. Using raw emotional language and a contemporary musical palette, Lempicka explores the life of a struggling artist hell bent on carving her undying mark on the worlds of art and fashion in the midst of social upheaval and sexual transformation."
