Original Cast Will Reunite for One-Night-Only Presentation of Starting Here, Starting Now
By Andrew Gans
Following the recent five-month run of Closer Than Ever, The York Theatre Company will continue its celebration of Richard Maltby, Jr. and David Shire with a one-night only performance of their hit Off-Broadway musical revue, Starting Here, Starting Now, Dec. 2 at 7:30 PM at The York Theatre at Saint Peter’s.
With direction by Maltby and music direction by Kevin Stites, the evening will reunite original cast members Loni Ackerman (Cats, Evita), Margery Cohen (Berlin to Broadway with Kurt Weill) and George Lee Andrews (The Phantom of the Opera).
"The excitement of young love and the confusion of growing up (or is it the other way around?) are explored in Starting Here, Starting Now," according to press notes. "Using songs from their various early musicals (produced or otherwise), from tender ballads to hysterical husband-hunting laments, from wry comments on trendy marriages to ecstatic shouting-from-the-rooftop celebration, Starting Here, Starting Now [is] a bold journey through the maze of relationships." The production debuted in 1976 at Manhattan Theater Club before transferring to Barbarann Theater Restaurant followed by a Grammy nomination for the original cast album.
Tickets are priced at $74.50 and are available online at www.yorktheatre.org, by calling (212) 935-5820, or in person at the box office at the York Theatre at Saint Peter’s (entrance on East 54th Street, just east of Lexington Avenue).
