Broadway's Cinderella Announces New Preview and Opening Night Dates

Hurricane Sandy is still causing setbacks on Broadway. Producers of the new production of Rodgers and Hammerstein's Cinderella have announced a new Broadway start date and opening night for the musical due to delays in the production schedule.



The musical will now begin previews Jan. 24, 2013, towards a Feb. 24, 2013, opening night at the Broadway Theatre. The musical was originally announced to begin Jan. 21, 2013, towards a Feb. 21, 2013, opening.

Tickets are now on sale for Cinderella, which stars Tony Award nominee Laura Osnes (Bonnie & Clyde, South Pacific) and Santino Fontana (Billy Elliot, Importance of Being Earnest) as Cinderella and the Prince, respectively.

Mark Brokaw (The Lyons, Cry-Baby) directs the production that reconceives the classic musical in a fresh dramatic context. The new incarnation of the musical features a book by Tony Award nominee Douglas Carter Beane (Xanadu, Lysistrata Jones, The Little Dog Laughed). His treatment recharts the journey of the classic tale in a new way. Retaining all classic elements of the fairytale, it will now be Cinderella's turn to rescue the Prince.

The new production incorporates songs from the Rodgers and Hammerstein catalogue, as well as songs from the original television version, including "In My Own Little Corner," "Impossible/It's Possible," "Ten Minutes Ago" and "Do I Love You Because You're Beautiful?"

The cast also boasts Tony Award winner Harriet Harris (Thoroughly Modern Millie) as Cinderella's Stepmother, Madame; Tony winner Victoria Clark (The Light in the Piazza, Sister Act) as the Fairy Godmother, Marie; Peter Bartlett (A Free Man of Color, The Frogs) as Sebastian, the Prime Minister; Ann Harada (Avenue Q, "Smash") as stepsister Charlotte; Marla Mindelle (Sister Act) as stepsister Gabrielle; and Greg Hildreth (Peter and the Starcatcher) as the rebel Jean-Michel.

Robyn Goodman, the Tony-winning producer of Avenue Q, In the Heights and the 2008 revival of West Side Story, Stephen Kocis (Barefoot in the Park) and Tony winner Jill Furman (In the Heights, West Side Story, Seminar) in association with Center Theatre Group produce Cinderella.

Cinderella has choreography by Josh Rhodes, with music adaptation, supervision and arrangements by David Chase. Andy Einhorn is music director and conductor. Scenic design is by Anna Louizos, costume design is by William Ivey Long, lighting design is by Ken Posner and sound design by Nevin Steinberg.
